Without those, you are going to fall behind in strength rankings too much which will make you fair game for anyone (did I mention that everyone hates you already?). Originally posted by Winger:As stated, you really need the Norscan settlements and you really need to build them up for the campaign bonuses. But play Norsca, you spend pretty much the whole game sitting in Norsca. Pick Dreadfleet or Sartosa, and you actually more or less have the freedom to send out armies to raid and sack settlements. Honestly, when you compare Norsca to the Vampire Coast, the Vampire coast is leagues better. Like the Cygor, which is one of the first hunts, is pretty much impossible in the earlygame since you'll really only have infantry, and the Cygor pretty much kills an entire unit every time he throws. Also, I feel like the monster hunts are seriously unbalanced. All that cool tech that you can get for taking important settlements is pretty much useless since all your armies are stuck in/near Norsca defending and your settlement garrisons are crap and can't defend anything. I usually spend the first 100-150 games just defending myself, building up Norsca, and beating down the Empire/Kislev, and by the time you're done with that the campaign is usually just about over. Your settlements are honestly critical because you need that research rate and you need that income to be able to actually field armies and profit from raiding, but you can really only field enough armies to be able to defend yourself.

Empire sending armies up my way even though they're at war with the VC and Orcs (and losing). Northern empire provinces declare war on me and then just stare at me with a stack sitting in their settlement one turn away from razing mine so I'm forced to respond. After that Har-Ganeth declares war on me and sends all its armies my way, even though Averlorn is still alive. Ahgol and Mung declare war on me when they're at war with Har-Ganeth, and losing. Everybody just seems to have a hard-on for you, and it honestly doesn't really make a lot of sense. Yeah, I mean, IMO, Norsca is a cool idea but the actual execution is honestly pretty bad.
